Censorship: Instagram says it's removing posts supporting Soleimani

We edge closer to being more like China every day.

    Excerpt:

Washington DC (CNN Business)Instagram and its parent company Facebook are removing posts that voice support for slain Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani to comply with US sanctions, a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement to CNN Business Friday.

The Iranian government has called for nationwide legal action against Instagram in protest, even creating a portal on a government website for the app's users to submit examples of posts the company removed, Iranian state media reported.

Instagram is one of the few western social media platforms that is not blocked in Iran. Facebook and Twitter are blocked but some Iranians access those sites using VPNs.

In a tweet, Iran's government spokesperson, Ali Rabiei, called Instagram's actions "undemocratic."

You give the US too much credit.
From here it looks like what will become the normal from the day the president drove a coach and horses through the Constitution.
One thing I'm sure of is that no American can in future quote the Constitution as a directive on political behavior or guidance without being laughed on.

I think it's important for people to remember that Instagram is a privately owned company and has a right to basically do whatever they deem is proper regardless of the outcome. Of course people have a right to boycott Instagram and it's subsidiaries if they so choose. Sometimes applying financial pressure on companies gets the biggest results.

Btw, IMO for Iran to call Instagram's actions undemocratic is laughable given their continuing censorship of media they don't "approve" of.
